Dalloways test new songs, while Inferno Brights honor Dirty Spanglish

I wandered over to the Back Room which is attached to the Dome last Friday night with Jay Jones from ABC23. We arrived on a tip from Dirty Spanglish who told me the Dalloways were going to perform. That’s always good news as they haven’t gigged in a while.

For those of you who don’t know about the Dalloways, you better get used to me talking about them. They’re a Fresno-Bakersfield band with deep roots into brit pop, dream lounge and what others might ethereally consider shoegaze.

Sadly they’re now a four piece, as their Latino guitarist, Ricky Gonzales seems MIA. None for the worse, their new songs are just as melodic, maybe even a little more mature than their already intellectual first album, “Penalty Crusade.”

Although there are no horns live as I hear there are on the upcoming e.p. “Dirty Money” and forthcoming album, “Distant Fairs,” their live version of Dirty Money was a rocking brit pop anthem worthy of Gary Enns big Rickenbocker riffs.

Cortnie Enns seems to add more back-up than I heard on "Penalty Crusade" pieces which was a nice touch. Bassist Matt Wall was just as funky with his bass than ever. Definitely worth a listen if you’re around for their next gig.

Lead man Gary Enns is no creative slouch as he’s an English/Creative Writing professor from Cerro Coso community college. He helps put out a lit journal titled Metamorphoses that yours truly has been in. He also has a funky lit blog titled “Ruined By Books” that’s worth a peek on top of putting out some of the central valley’s rare brit pop tunes.
